The only thing here is a bunch of comic reviews and links to comic related stuff." Well, I started this blog so that I could put together lists of key issues of various comic book titles. That was and still is my intention. I got back into collecting comics after an absence of nearly 13 years. Triggered primarily by a couple of articles I read about the new Wonder Woman costume and the new X-Men title. Probably more important is that I can actually afford it now.

I enjoy reading comics and I also hope that someday someone will pay outrageous amounts of money for the ones I've collected. So I'm always on the lookout for "REALLY good deals" on collectible books. Like the New Mutants #98 that I found for about 80 cents. I haven't had it graded yet but my guess is that it's probably VF/NM 9.0. That's what I mean by really good deals. If that book had been 40 bucks or more I probably would have passed on it. Thanks to many generations of my family, I'm what you might call a tightwad.

So how did I know to grab that book out of a longbox that some poor sap had sold to a junk dealer? Well I had done some research on characters that I liked way back when and I knew that this issue was the first appearance of Deadpool. That's one way to go with collecting comics, only going after first appearances. People also collect first issues. You could collect what's called a full run, all the issues in one volume. Some people collect all the appearances of a particular character. I collect a mixture of all of these. The other way to collect is to buy "key issues." This term is a little hard to define. It's a little like "reality." There is no such thing as reality. We all interpret what we see and then call it reality. I read that in a college textbook once. Key issues are really key issues to the individual collector. Maybe you don't care that Detective Comics #475 has artwork by Marshall Rogers but for his fans this might be a key issue. It also happens to be a classic story called "The Laughing Fish." What's so great about Spider-Woman Vol. 1 #37? For you, maybe nothing. For me, it's the first appearance of Siryn, one of my favorite characters. Some of these are valuable monetarily, some have sentimental value, and others are worth nothing until you find the person who views it as a key issue.

That's the job of this blog to list key issues in various comic book volumes. I couldn't find another site on the web doing a good job of this. I found some listings in forums on various sites but that's a lot of trial and error searching. I could use the price guides, but I'm not just interested in how much something is worth. I also want to read good scripts coupled with good artwork. Some of the best books I've ever read are only listed as being worth a couple of dollars. A blog is probably not the best format for this, but it's all I have time for right now. If people like it maybe it will turn into a site all by itself. If anyone else wants to compile lists of key issues, I'll gladly publish them and give you credit. Likewise, if I come up with a list and you feel I've forgotten something please let me know.Brian Michael Cassityhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06280257349919485979noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2494616818240696888.post-70284615811314177962016-12-31T11:28:00.002-05:002017-01-25T15:40:25.260-05:00Key Issues for Legion (David Haller)

One of the upcoming TV shows that I'm most excited about is Legion. The show premiers February 8th on FX. Legion is about David Haller who suffers from multiple personality disorder and is the son of Professor Charles Xavier, leader of the X-Men. Apparently, this show will take place in the same fictional universe as the X-Men films though I doubt we will see any characters from the films. In case you haven't seen it, here's the trailer for the show:
Though I'm sure the show will be far different from the comics, here's a list of key issues for David Haller:
X-Men Legacy Vol 2 - The entire series is about David Haller. It's excellent not only for the story and writing but also for the interior art and the fantastic Mike Del Mundo covers. The movie is awesome. Benedict Cumberbatch is perfectly cast and the visual effects are incredible. Like Ant-Man, it's a well paced origin story that leaves you wanting a sequel and unlike Civil War, you can see it without having any knowledge of the previous Marvel movies.

In case I haven't convinced you, here's the trailer followed by a list of the 1st comic book appearances of the characters in the film.
On the DC side I read Batman and Wonder Woman, but most of the Marvel titles on my pull list are X-Men related. I don't think I've bought an Avengers book since Remender was writing Uncanny Avengers. Having said that, I always get hooked by great cover art. So today as I was picking up my books from Twilite Zone Comics, I see this book out of the corner of my eye and it starts screaming, "Buy me!"

The reasons are pretty clear just from the cover.

1. It's obviously an Alex Ross cover and it doesn't get much better. If Alex Ross wanted to make millions, he should turn his art into wallpaper so that comic book nerds could paste it all over their houses.

2. Mark Waid is writing it. His Fantastic Four run is considered one of the best ever and his writing on Daredevil won him both an Eisner and a Harvey. Need I say more?

3. Mike del Mundo art. I can't explain how much I love this guy's artwork. His cover art for the 2013 X-Men Legacy series is mind boggling (it also won him an Eisner). If I had a spare wall for artwork (my wife only allows me to decorate my office), I'd frame every cover of that series and put it in a grid from floor to ceiling.

4. Spider-Man: okay. Captain America: it's Avengers, right. Wasp: sure. Thor: fine. Vision: that's cool. HOLY SHIT! Is that Hercules back in the Avengers!? I couldn't be more happy. Hercules needs this. He can be such a great character. Dan Abnett just gave us six wonderful issues making him more than just a drunken oaf with big muscles. I hope Waid makes him a contributor instead of just the muscle.

If those weren't enough reasons, after reading it I can tell you that this initial issue has a great hook involving Kang the Conqueror. Waid does a great job of mixing the formation of the new team (though we still don't know how Civil War II ends) and the introduction of the story thread for the first arc. The pacing is perfect. Maybe that's Waid's script or del Mundo's layouts but it works seamlessly.

Mike del Mundo's artwork is amazing as usual. Based on this book, I'm not sure anyone else should be allowed to draw and color someone changing size unless they've taken lessons from del Mundo.

See what I mean? Here's another.

The only unfortunate is that this issue was $4.99 though it is oversized. 34 pages I think. I'm assuming the price is because of the #1. At $3.99 for future issues, this series just got added to my pull list.
Caveat to this entire post: I started writing this entry several months ago when Deadpool & the Mercs for Money was just a limited series. I had no idea it would turn into an ongoing title with a switch in the cast. Though the new team is interesting, it has a different dynamic than Deadpool's original choices. They definitely feel less like D-listers. I'm also aware that Solo, Foolkiller, and Slapstick are getting solo series. Something tells me these won't be around very long.

Deadpool is everywhere right now. His movie just came to Blu-ray/DVD/Digital after a nice run in theaters grossing over $700 million. He's currently starring or co-starring in at least three ongoing series and at any given time there is at least one limited series featuring Wade Wilson. If you are a Daredevil or Power Man and Iron Fist completist with OCD, Deadpool's popularity might really be pissing you off because in order to get Daredevil issue #7.1 or Power Man and Iron Fist issue #4.1 you'll need to buy Deadpool #13 with a price tag of $9.99. Deadpool may piss you off simply because you'll be standing in line behind at least 20 to 30 people cosplaying him at the next con that you attend.

I, however, love Deadpool. Is he overexposed? Definitely. Is Marvel trying to cash in on the movie's popularity? For sure. Do the comics suffer for it? Absolutely not. Fortunately, the folks writing Deadpool currently all have the same take on him, deeply flawed but likable unwilling hero. Joe Kelly handled Deadpool in the earliest days of the character by defining him and creating much more than a Deathstroke ripoff. Gerry Duggan has grown and refined all of the traits and flaws that fans love in addition to creating a rich supporting cast. Finally, Cullen Bunn has given us almost every brilliant limited series starring Deadpool in the past four years.

Currently in both Deadpool by Duggan and Deadpool & the Mercs for Money by Bunn, Deadpool has on his payroll a team of mercenaries from around the Marvel Universe. I was familiar with some of these characters from past Deadpool stories, but for several of them I knew next to nothing. I love the "Mercs". Maybe because I can empathize with their lot in life. They're not the most popular characters, but they've likely done quite a bit of the grunt work to get things done in the Universe that no one will ever know about. Their boss is eccentric and doesn't always make sense, but the pay is really good so they put up with it. They may have aspired to do something else in life, but now they have a wife, some kids, and a mortgage. This is the story of the C students that know they'll never be Avengers and don't have time to debate the morality of profiling future criminals based on predictions of the future. I wanted to give a little recognition to these poor guys who will never get a list of their own so I did some research on them and came up with this list of key issues for the character's that make up Deadpool's Mercs For Money:

I may not have mentioned it before, but some of the coolest stories in comic books are "team ups." Typically the story goes like this, our hero is in the middle of an adventure/investigation/fight when another hero shows up. Often there is some confusion and the heroes tussle amongst themselves while the villain escapes. Once clearer heads prevail, they join together to defeat their common enemy. The rest of the plot is just window dressing so it's interesting that such a simple storyline has led to quite a few popular series.
Fans enjoy these stories for a couple of reasons. First, we get to see two or more of our beloved heroes so there's already more bang for the buck, but the story also puts together two heroes that we don't typically see interacting with each other. Maybe more important is that the stories are somewhat throwaway. Because the story is not taking place in either of the main character's series, there is less effect on the long term development of the characters. It appears that writers have a bit more freedom in these series to experiment, introduce new characters, and tell a contained story without the burden of too much continuity.

There have been multiple great "team up" series over the years including Marvel Team-Up, DC Comics Presents, and Marvel Two-in-One. I may be biased because of my affinity for Batman, but I think the best and perhaps earliest incarnation of the team up is DC's, Brave and the Bold series. It didn't become a team up series until issue #50, but it spawned lots of fantastic stories and introduced many beloved characters. This series featured great writers like Bob Haney, Gerry Conway, Len Wein, and Mike Barr. It also had character redefining artwork from artists such as Neal Adams and Jim Aparo. Below is the list of key issues for this series. As always, let me know if I've missed any.
I'm almost as excited for this movie as I was for Star Wars The Force Awakens. In case you don't know, Deadpool was written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick who wrote the the funniest zombie movie ever, Zombieland. The director, Tim Miller, doesn't have a long list of credits behind his name, but he did direct the opening sequence of Thor: The Dark World which is incredible. Red Band Trailer (NSFW) below followed by the list of 1st appearances.

For those of you like me who have CompleX feelings about Marvel's direction for the X-Men after Secret Wars, we were offered an additional glimmer of hope today. I say additional because I already have high hopes for Cullen Bunn's Uncanny X-Men. As revealed over at CBR, the Uncanny X-Men roster will include Monet St. Croix and what I hope is the real Archangel.

As much as I loved Rick Remender's X-Force run, the only thing I disliked more than the Fantomex 3-way split was the transformation of Archangel back to the uncannily vanilla Angel. I couldn't understand why a character with such conflicting motivations was reduced to a shell and then put on a shelf. If I remember correctly, he had maybe two or three appearances in Wolverine and the X-Men and was never heard from again.

Regardless, it appears that our Archangel is back. I don't really care how. I just want interesting multi-dimensional characters and it appears that Cullen Bunn does as well. Otherwise, why would he have chosen this group of dual-nature mutants with the some of the most interesting and heartbreaking backstories.

I've mentioned before that his Magneto series is/was the best book that Marvel has published over the past year and a half. Is it because it is vastly different than everything else Marvel is publishing? Not really. Is Magneto just that awesome no matter who writes him? Definitely not. I think it's primarily because Cullen Bunn really understands what makes Magneto work. He is a villain for sure, but he's also been a victim. Though in his own really messed up way, he is a hero. Maybe not by homo sapiens standards, but if you were a mutant kid being bullied by humans, you'd probably look up to Magneto. During the series, Bunn also chose to show us Magneto's acknowledgement of his shortcomings. This allowed us to empathize with Eric the same way we would with a Tony Soprano or a Dexter Morgan and suddenly half of our brain cheered for the bad guy while the other half told us you shouldn't be cheering for the bad guy.

Maybe this series will be cathartic for those of us with a CompleX. Just like the mutant kid who idolizes Magneto, we'll be rooting for these Uncanny X-Men to take on the humans, the Inhumans, and Marvel itself.

Finally, just in case you're thinking I forgot that the blog is called Key Issue Comics, here's a list of the first appearances for Cullen Bunn's Uncanny X-Men:

The X-Men #1 (1963) - 1st appearance of Magneto. 1st appearance of Warren Worthington III (Angel).
I finally made it to my local comic shop, Twilite Zone Comics, today and picked up a handful of awesome books and got my copy of the All-New All-Different Free Previews Magazine. I already knew what was in it based on the leaks from earlier this week (Imagine that Axel Alonso, I saw the leaks and still went to the local comic shop). However, I wanted to reserve judgement until I had a physical copy in hand in case there was more to it than just the leaked images.

The Good

As I mentioned in a previous post, it's awesome to see a new series for Dr. Strange by Jason Aaron. Though I guess it's a given based on the movie coming out in 2016.

We're getting a new Deadpool. Or is it the old Deadpool? If you remember from Deadpool #250, he died during the Incursion of 1610 universe. Not sure how a healing factor brings you back from that.

Ultimates #1 - I've heard lots of good things about Al Ewing though I haven't read any of his work, but I'll buy this purely for Kenneth Rocafort art. His work on Teen Titans is fantastic.

Cullen Bunn still writing Magneto in Uncanny X-Men. His solo Magneto series is the best book that Marvel has been publishing over the past year.

Jeff Lemire and Andrea Sorrentino on Old Man Logan. Not only are we getting in my opinion the best version of Wolverine, but we get it from this creative team. These two put out an incredible Green Arrow book at DC.

The Bad

Everything comes with a side of Inhumans. Do you like Avengers? Cool, you'll also like this Inhuman that we added to the team? Is Beast you're favorite X-man? Great, check him out in Uncanny Inhumans. Want an edgy character that wears a hoodie? Super, you should read Warren Ellis' Karnak. Who? Oh he's this totes awesome Inhuman guy. Do you love it when the X-Men are down and out? Word. Now they're not only underdogs but now their entire existence is tangled up with the Inhumans.

The O5 X-Men are still here. I liked the concept originally because I thought it was a cool way to bring Jean Grey back without some crazy retcon. I had assumed that somehow Secret Wars might be used to save her and get rid of the rest. Instead, they appear to be in the Mystery Machine solving crimes. I'll pass.

Iron Man is the face of Marvel. Let me just offend lots of people right now. I don't like Iron Man. 616 Tony Stark Iron Man is boring. I would guess that most people buying an Iron Man comic these days assume that Robert Downey Jr. is in there somewhere. Unfortunately, he's not.

The Confusing

I mentioned above that I don't quite understand how Deadpool is back. He was killed during an Incursion. In the main Secret Wars series, Dr. Strange explained that Doom saved what he could and that is what became the domains of Battleworld. If that is the case, then wouldn't it make sense that the new Marvel Universe can only come from Battleworld? We know some characters make it out to the new Marvel Universe: Old Man Logan, A-Force, Miles Morales. However, from these handful of covers (granted, it literally is only a handful of covers) doesn't it seem like the 616 Universe was just recreated? Based on the Battleworld map, the only part of the 616 that survived is Manhattan and the Monster Metropolis. Did every character in the 616 make it to Manhattan? Will Reed Richards feel like a dumb ass when he hears about this and realizes if he had just stayed in the Baxter Building that his wife and kids would still be alive?

Maybe this will all be explained in the last four issues of Secret Wars. Though I have a feeling it won't be entirely resolved. We'll all just read Silver Surfer #16 where Norrin Radd will say something like, "With the Power Cosmic, just make everything the way it was, you know, before the Beyonders started messing with us. Oh, and save the remaining souls on Battleworld that are marketable and haven't been killed by Doom."

Entertainment Weekly announced this morning that Jason Aaron and Chris Bachalo will be bringing back Dr. Strange this fall as part of the All-New, All-Different Marvel. This news along with Old Man Logan making it out of Secret Wars are the greatest bits I've heard so far about the Marvel Universe reboot.
For those of you who didn't read Original Sin (completely understandable that you didn't, it started strong, weak middle full of delays, so-so last issue), one of the highlights was Aaron writing Dr. Strange as he worked with the Punisher to solve the murder of the Watcher. The wit and sarcasm in that dialogue was exactly what I want to see in this series. I'm always on the fence about Bachalo's artwork, but the preview designs in this article look pretty good. The article is here:
I finally got around to finishing the third part of the Uncanny X-Men key issues list. Parts one and two can be found at the respective links. We've reached #400 - #544 and I had to dig deep to find key issues. In this era of the X-Men a lot happens without anything really happening at least until you get to Brubaker's run starting in #475. At that point lots of great storylines come out with Messiah Complex, Messiah War, Nation X, Second Coming, etc. I was planning on ending this with #544 but with #600 announced to come out in October 2015, perhaps I'll do a part 4 that includes, the two Uncanny volumes, Wolverine and the X-Men, and All-New X-Men just to tidy things up before the new Marvel Universe debuts in September.

It was with great anticipation that I picked up Death of Wolverine #4 today. And then, disappointment. Not with Charles Soule, Steve McNiven, Jay Leisten, or Justin Ponsor who did a masterful job of sending our hero off with beautiful artwork and a subtle story of self-sacrifice. The entire series was wonderful even though it seemed a bit hurried. Perhaps one or two more issues would have been better.

The real letdown is how Marvel is treating Wolverine's death. Let's start with the timing of this mini-series and the timing of Axis, the latest Marvel event. Apparently, there were some slight delays with Death of Wolverine, but dropping this issue in the middle of Axis seems to give short shrift to his death. Wolverine, an Avenger and arguably the most popular of all the X-Men, dies before the events of Axis (I'm assuming, otherwise why wouldn't he be there fighting alongside all of his teammates) and no one even makes mention of it. Sad and inexcusable.

In another stupid scheduling move, Marvel releases Wolverine and the X-Men #10 on the same day with a "Death of Wolverine" banner across the cover. Ideally, this issue would show up a week later after some time for his death to resonate both with fans and Wolverine's students and fellow X-Men. Instead, we get a poorly written issue with way too many artists depicting those closest to Wolverine who apparently skipped the first four stages of grief and moved on to acceptance.

I haven't read the Logan Legacy #1 yet, but from what I've heard, the book will really only deal with other Weapon X program characters.

None of this would matter if Logan were suddenly resurrected in a week, but from Axel Alonso down to Charles Soule, we've been told that there's been no thought given to how he would come back and that dead Wolverine will be the status quo for the foreseeable future. Disheartening when you consider that Marvel is usually planning stories two to three years out. Even more disheartening to see one of the characters that helped keep Marvel out of bankruptcy paid such little respect.
The steal of the week this week comes from Baltimore Comic Con and the guys at Zapp Comics. I picked up this sweet copy of Batman #197 for $10 at their booth along with some Bronze Age books at a good price. This wonderful issue follows a "reformed" Catwoman in her quest to marry Batman and outdo her perceived rival for his affections, Batgirl. Written by Gardner Fox and drawn by Frank Springer, this issue shows us the one weakness in Batman's detective skills...

Because the conversation and rumors surrounding Marvel's plans for the X-Men don't seem to be going away (this was posted on Tom Breevort's Tumblr page today), I thought I'd add my two cents...

Fourteen. That is the number of current ongoing Marvel titles featuring the X-Men, a subset of X-Men, or a solo series for a character from the X-Men. Add in Specials, Annuals, One-Shots, and mini-series and your total cost for X-titles will be over $60 per month. To be fair, the Avengers titles do have more ongoings if you count anyone who's been an Avenger. Though almost everyone has been an Avenger at some point in their superhero career.

When I started collecting, I typically bought three to four titles a week. At the time, there were only four in continuity X-books: Uncanny X-Men, X-Men, X-Factor, and X-Force. So each week I got my one X-book and had enough money left to pick up some other titles. Maybe it was Captain America, Batman, Wonder Woman. The next week I'd pick up another X-book and two or three others. Maybe this time it was Spawn and Moon Knight.

For those of us that enjoy the shared universe and like to follow all of the storylines for our favorite characters, this is almost impossible today. If comic book pricing suddenly dropped by 50%, I might be able to manage it. However, the number of titles in each family today means I need to make a choice. I can either read all the X-books and their solo titles or give up on some continuity and pick up a few other series. Talk to DC readers and you'll hear the same complaint about the Batman family of titles.

This is one of the primary factors for low sales of B and C list characters. I'd love to pick up an issue of All New Ghost Rider or Elektra as I've heard these are fantastic series. There's just no room on my pull list to get these books if I'm interested in continuity for my favorites. I've read the first four issues of Dan Slott's Silver Surfer. It's not for everyone, but I loved it. Unfortunately, I don't have the budget to add it. So this progression follows; consumers with limited budgets trying to keep up with continuity or crossover storylines leads to low sales of B and C list characters which leads to cancellations which leads ultimately to less familiarity with these characters.

Here's where that will come back to bite Marvel and DC. Eventually, an actor's contract runs out (already seeing this with Robert Downey Jr and Chris Evans) or an actor will get older (Anthony Hopkins can't possibly live as long as the All-Father, Odin). This means that film franchises will end and they'll need to replace it with a new franchise. People flocked to see Avengers because they'd been waiting almost 50 years for someone to make that movie. However, in my opinion, the Guardians of the Galaxy success is a bit of a fluke. Yes, Marvel Studios did everything to make it a success: perfect director for the film, the perfect ensemble cast, and fantastic marketing. What's not obvious to most people who saw that film is that incredible source material already existed to base that script on. If Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning hadn't had an opportunity to create their stellar series in 2008, that film wouldn't have been possible. Will there be similar recent material for Inhumans? Not if Charles Soule's series doesn't start selling better. It should be selling better because it's very good.

Armchair quarterbacking here, but if I had any sway at Marvel I'd be slowly reducing the number of titles in each family. This would leave room in comic buyers budgets for a new Black Panther or Dr. Strange series or the current Inhuman series. With all of the rumors swirling behind the outcomes of Axis and Time Runs Out and a possible refresh of the Marvel Universe, maybe this is already underway.

The title Stars & Garters or the fact that we need Marvel to make a one-shot for it, won't make any sense until you've read Original Sins #5. It was the first thing that I read after getting back from the comic shop today because Bleeding Cool teased the "death" of a character in the issue. The Young Avengers story had a pleasant ending, but this comic is worth $3.99 just for Chip Zdarsky's two page "The No-Sin Situation" story in which our heroes confess not in continuity sins. Once you read it, I hope you'll join me in my quest to get Marvel to let Zdarsky do a one-shot for Stars & Garters.Brian Michael Cassityhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06280257349919485979noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2494616818240696888.post-14141203869213736192014-01-23T22:02:00.001-05:002014-01-23T22:05:32.759-05:00Possible Wonder Woman Solo Movie?

According to Variety, Gal Gadot who will be playing Wonder Woman in the upcoming Man of Steel sequel signed on with Warner Brothers for three movies. So the speculation is that in addition to the sequel and Justice League, the third must be a solo Wonder Woman film. Hopefully that's true, though I fear it may be a just in case for a Justice League 2 if the first one is successful. They should make a solo movie and if anyone knows someone at Warner Brothers please direct them to my post from three years ago about how to make a Wonder Woman movie. I didn't jump into the fray earlier about whether Gal Gadot is the right actress for Wonder Woman but I will now. Gadot is beautiful obviously, but will she be able to play Diana. Based on her remarks about the role to an Israeli TV show, I'm pretty confident that she's got the right attitude. The pic accompanying this post is Gadot next to the cover for Wonder Woman Vol 2 #128 by one of the best to ever do Wonder Woman covers, Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez. This week's steal is Godzilla King of the Monsters #3 from October of 1977. I picked it up for a buck at my awesome LCS, Twilite Zone Comics. It's probably around a Fine grade but who cares when the story is the Champions versus Godzilla written by Doug Moench and drawn by Herb Trimpe. The Champions pretty much suck at stopping Godzilla the entire issue while Dum Dum Dugan and SHIELD get their asses handed to them by Godzilla. Not a key issue by any means but the ending is awesome and you get great panels like this one of Godzilla destroying the Golden Gate Bridge.

So the key issues list that everyone who finds their way to this blog really wants to see. I'm breaking this up into parts because it has taken me so long to put together. As with earlier lists, I haven't included issues for the beginning of runs by different creators because there are just too many to list. What I found amazing during the research is that so many of the characters appearing in just the first 200 issues have had and continue to have a huge impact even today. Part one of the key issues list for The (Uncanny) X-Men after the jump.
If you are at all like me, you are counting the days until May 23, 2014 in anticipation of X-Men: Days of Future Past. As I did previously for X-Men: First Class which you can find here, I put together a 1st appearance list for all of the characters that we know about so far. There is one other that should probably be on this list, but I'll wait until the movie comes out in case anyone is avoiding the spoilers. Also worth noting is that the story is based on Uncanny X-Men #141 and #142.

The (Uncanny) X-Men #1: 1st Appearance of Professor Xavier, Magneto, Beast, Iceman

The (Uncanny) X-Men #4: 1st Appearance of Quicksilver

The (Uncanny) X-Men #14: 1st Appearance of Bolivar Trask

The (Uncanny) X-Men #54: 1st Appearance of Havok

The Incredible Hulk #180: 1st Cameo of Wolverine

The Incredible Hulk #181: 1st Full Appearance of Wolverine

Giant Size X-Men #1: 1st Appearance of Storm, Colossus
Ms. Marvel #16 - 18: 1st Appearance of Mystique. This one is tough to judge. Mystique cameos in #16, disguises herself as Nick Fury in #17, and makes her first full appearance as Mystique in #18.
Depending on how the character is written, I can see their point. Fortunately, for those of us who want Deadpool to be a good comic book, Brian Posehn and Gerry Duggan are evolving him into more than the one note character he has been recently.

Posehn and Duggan began sowing the seeds for "The good, the bad and the ugly" story in the issues after their first arc. The premise is that every so often mysterious people are drugging Deadpool and harvesting his organs without his knowledge. Starting in issue #15 Deadpool decides to enlist some help and track down the folks doing this to him. I don't want to give anything else away because it was such a good read. The fact that I almost cried during issue #19 should suffice. Posehn and Duggan have brought a tragic comedian sensibility to Deadpool that is perfect for the character. The Declan Shalvey artwork is superb. Let's hope it continues. "The good, the bad and the ugly" runs from Deadpool #15 through #19.Brian Michael Cassityhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06280257349919485979noreply@blogger.com0
